For those about to Rock!!

Stephen King once said, that our senses are the closest we'll ever get to time travel. He then went on to explain, about how you can eat something, smell something, or hear something...and for a quick moment in time...your mind shoots you back to a moment in time that is attached to that sensation. Only, unfortunately, long enough to have but a moment of nostalgia and then WHAM!! (not George Michael)...you're back to Reality.

I listen to Pandora a lot (in which by the way SSP is now on Pandora...look that shit up!!), especially when I write these blogs, cause depending on my mood I will select a station that fits...and the song that came on as I was navigating to this site was AC/DC "For Those About to Rock". Angus started jolting my brain waves. Now if you're familiar with that song, you'll know the gritty six string intro that I'm referring to. If you're not familiar with it:

Familiarize yo self.

So...as that comes through my brain I'm instantly transported back to Summer of 1993, sitting in my house in WV, in the "utility room" playing DOOM (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doom_%28video_game%29). Ah...the good ol days!

Amazing how quickly and accurately our senses and body can do that kind've stuff. I'm wondering which one of you will one day be somewhere and hear the opening riff to "Moonshine Shake" and suddenly be transported back to 2009 at the Red Eyed Fly chugging Lonestar and throwing a fist in the air!! Now that would be some Time Travel!!

Alright, well enough of that...this past weekend was a blast...we did get our feet wet during the SXSW insanity by playing Headhunters @ 3pm on Saturday. I woke up @ 10 am with Billy Milano wheeling and dealing me on the phone, headed to the gym, got my sweat on (aka said goodbye to the High Life) and headed downtown around 1pm. It was cold as balls that day, every other day was awesome...but for some reason Saturday was in the 40's (and compared to 70's that's cold).

By 3pm I think it is safe to say that the bar was full and the rock was melting faces and setting markers for future time travelers. We did get it recorded and as soon as that is available I'll be sharing it. Until then, here's some pics:

And then there's me the best Air Guitar player in Austin!!

We did have a blast, but I think as always, that's evident by the end of the night!!

So...thank you all that came out!!

Looking ahead...a lot...and I mean A LOT of things are popping for SSP ... keep your eyes open and your ears peeled back...cause this train is catching some serious speed.

Keep it Gangsta!

Top 5 Favorite Rock/Metal Bands:
1. Metallica
2. Motley Crue
3. Guns N Roses
4. Pantera
5. Megadeth

Now if that ain't a bad ass line up I don't know what is. I had a hard time leaving Skynyrd out of that line up, but I just don't see them as Rock/Metal...more Southern Rock. I'll divulge that information at a later date.

As many of you already know, the monstrous SXSW is upon us...pumping $$ straight from your checkbook into Austin's economy...which I guess isn't a bad thing...better here than elsewhere. SSP will be joining the thousands of musicians that have infiltrated this town on Saturday at 3 pm at Headhunters.

Headhunters is definitely one of my favorite bars in ATX. Located on the corner of 8th and Red River....

This is one of the first bars my good buddy Dylan took me to on my early ventures downtown...so if you're looking to catch an early buzz this Saturday...get on down to Red River...and let me make you a believer of the loudest band in Rock N Roll.

So...I have booked up alot of April/May and am working into June. We've added some new places in Fort Worth, Arlington, and Houston. We're really excited about that...and as always working our way back to San Antonio and San Angelo.

I don't know about you guys, but it's about time SSP attacked the rest of the country...

Hopefully after we get this album done, get our new merch in, and throw the bitchinest of CD Release parties...we can set off across this great Nation and splatter Austin TEXAS Red River rock N Roll like a FAT tick that just got plucked from a farm dog and stepped on while listening to Black Label Society.

The stars are aligning...and the dude is abiding...like a thief in the night we shall come.

Quote of the Day: "Sometimes I'll start a sentence and I don't know where it's going. I just hope to find it somewhere along the way. Like an improv conversation. An improversation." - Michael Scott

The Humpty Dance is your Chance...

Well...if it isn't my good friend Hump Day!! Often times I'm reminded of a lyrical genuis, "My name is Humpty, pronounced with a Umpty. Yo ladies, oh how I like to hump thee. And all the rappers in the top ten--please allow me to bump thee." Remember that movie "Nothing but Trouble" when he rapped that during his trial???

I found that in the Bargain Bin @ Walmart...gotta Love America...

Anyways...pushing onward...last weekend was awesome, we had a great turnout @ Red Eyed Fly...and a lucky lady that goes by the name of Veronica walked away with 2 tickets to see Motorhead. We ended up giving away all kinds of stuff.

Then we traveled to San Antonio to pay Clicks...I literally pulled up...unloaded straight to the stage...and started playing...talk about no room for error...I thought we went on @ 1030-11...we started @ 10pm. With my eyes wide open and my ears peeled back, I tucked down my Skynyrd Cowboy hat and plowed our way right into "Southern Sky" (previously named Southern Song).

So this week...we'll be playing @ Krush Lounge @ north Austin...supposed to be a cool show with a lot of bands playing...we go on @ 9pm.

What else is going on...SXSW is coming up and no we are not playing any SXSW shows...we didn't even apply for SXSW...I'll leave it at that. :)

We'll be starting our shoot for our first music video for "Alcohol of Fame" the first weekend of May, the guy doing it is from Dallas, here is a video he put together from several of his other projects:

He's bad ass...and we can't wait to get that going.

Alright...well that's enough for now...the SSP train is rolling right on down the tracks...new songs...new video...new merch...it's all coming...and Hell's coming with it...enjoy your life as you know it, for it's all about to change...

Have a good a good Hump Day...Humpty...pronounced with the Umpty LOL

Devils Right Hand

GAMETIME!! Thirsty Thursday is upon us...Practice tonight, Red Eyed Fly tomorrow night and Clicks in San Antonio on Saturday night. Gonna be one helluva weekend and I'm getting my gameface on.

Scheduled Studio time @ Sugar Hill in Houston for the end of this month...so hold onto your panties boys and girls...new SSP will be floodin the streets very soon. Also in the works is our first Music Video...this could be my break into my acting career!! Despite the fact that I'm not even acting in it...I feel my spirit will bleed into the video!!

So this is a cool show we have set up for tomorrow night, we're doing a raffle for:
-SSP Merch
-Butcherwhite Merch
-Red Eyed Fly Shirt / Hat
-Jager Schwag
-Restaurant Gift Cards
-2 Tickets for Motorheads show @ Stubbs March 16.

So I think that will be cool...I know I'd drop a couple bucks to buy a couple raffle tickets for those prizes...plus you get one for just showing up!

So I have in the past discussed books I read...for enjoyment as well as other things. I recently picked up, "Hardcore Troubadour: The Life and Almost Death of Steve Earle" and must say, so far it's good. When I was driving to the gym, I was thinking what all I knew about Steve Earle...and obviously the first thing that came to my mind was his song, "Copperhead Road".

Then I thought more about it and other songs came to mind...I didn't know where he was from...actually was born in VA (his father was in the military) and ended up in Texas. His grandfather was from Texas and when Steve was born, he mailed a tin full of Texas soil so that the first dirt his feet touched would be from the Lonestar state...I thought that was pretty cool.

So the more I thought about it, I searched the foggy, cob-webbed hallways of my life thinking about Steve Earle and a sudden memory flashed itself before my eyes like a drunk college freshman @ Mardi Gras ...

When I was younger...probably 10-12 years old, can't pinpoint it, I was laying on the couch in my living room in WV watching TV...my Dad and some friends were sitting in the kitchen drinking cheap beer and telling cheaper stories...when all of a sudden...during the "Little Boy Picking the Banjo" scene of Deliverance my Pops walks in and changes the channel and says, "Boy you need to watch this ... his name is Steve Earle and he can pick that guitar" So...out with Deliverance and in with Steve Earle...

Had you told me at that time that one day I would be in Austin Texas, with Snake Skin Prison, writing a blog about how I was reading Steve Earle's Biography...I would have probably looked at you stranger than I looked at my dad when he changed it off Deliverance...

"Where'd all those songs come from?"
"Life unfortunately..."

Keep it Real...Real SAFE!
