Oh...if it isn't Wednesday again...half way through the week. I hope everyone had an awesome Memorial Day, and I hope they paid respect for our Service Men and Women that have helped protect this beautiful country.
With that being said, I decided to give my respect to our soldiers as well. Our troops are very important to me, having had several very good friends and some family members serve in the armed forces. I've mailed my share of care packages overseas hoping they didn't find the moonshine and whiskey I packaged (that's a joke...maybe).
And if I had it my way...and one day I just might...I would see to it that those that pulled their time in the military would be able to retire and not have to work after wards...I mean they are giving their life for us...for crying out loud. Now I might not be the most political minded person in the room, but I'm sure if we can afford to pay our presidents $400k a year for the rest of their life...surely we can shoot our soldiers some cheddar after serving 20 years...
Either way, I'm just a rocker...with a hankering for a high life, so they probably won't listen to me...yet :) ... I told you how we played in San Angelo not too long ago. I do my best to remember the troops, and actually give them a cheers...after doing so, we finished the show and I was loading up our stuff and this guy comes up and says, "Hey man, my name is Nathan, and I'm an Iraqi vet and I wanted to give you something. I know that you guys are out there busting your ass day in and day out bringing us awesome rock n roll, and don't really get a lot back...you're giving us alot, but not rec'ing the same in return. So I wanted to give you this, it's from Japan, and I got it when I was going through Okinawa. It's one of their oldest forms of money and it says a bunch of stuff about Faith and Hope...but I can't read it (I thought that was funnY)." I thanked him and he was on his way.
So after all this guy has been through, he still had the respect to look at me....Matt Ballengee from WV...the High Life Drinking, Cheap Cig Smoking, Dirty Joke Telling hillbilly...that I gave a lot and didn't get enough in return...this coming from a Soldier!! I was blown away, because actually we do get alot in return...but we're in no way shape or form on the same level as a United States Serviceman/woman.
I thought I would share that story with you, for it's things like that...that I come across and save. I have a box in my apartment with all kinds of things I've picked up in the short 3 year life of SSP...so one day when this whole shithouse burns to the ground...I'm going to pull out everything, spread it all out on the ground...and each piece will tell a part of this wild journey I've started. I can't guarantee it will be good, but I can guarantee it will be interesting!! And that my friends...is payment enough.

HERE's to HONOR!!
